This paper presents optimum capacitive transformer bushing design for a 154 kV power transformer by boundary element-based simulations. Capacitive bushings include several conductive foils to improve the field distribution both within the insulator and along the insulator surface. Conductive foil configuration; i.e. number of the foils, location of the foils, length of the foils, and thickness of the insulating material between the foils affect the electric field distribution. This study aims to optimize the configuration by boundary element-based simulations. The results are discussed from the point of maximum field stresses at some critical locations. Optimal configuration providing improved field distribution at those critical locations is determined. © 2013 IEEE.
