Özet
In applications where energy efficiency strategies and sustainable insulation are required, the development of fully inorganic and ultra-lightweight three-dimensional (3D) aerogels—which can be used as alternatives to traditional polymeric materials—is of great importance. However, the high brittleness and poor mechanical integrity of traditional silica aerogels are the primary obstacles limiting the practical applications of these materials. Accordingly, the design of innovative inorganic aerogel systems capable of overcoming the mechanical weaknesses and structural degradation issues at high temperatures of existing aerogels is a critical requirement. In this study, 3D ultra-lightweight and highly porous SiO₂/diatomite nanofiber aerogels were synthesized without the use of an additional binder. PVA/TEOS/diatomite nanofibers produced via sol-gel and electrospinning methods were calcined at 800 °C to remove the organic phase. The resulting inorganic nanofibers were dispersed in deionized water and lyophilized to obtain a hierarchically porous 3D aerogel scaffold. SEM analyses confirmed that the fibrous network structure was preserved. This aerogel, composed entirely of inorganic components, offers a sustainable and highperformance alternative for various insulation applications due to its low density (0.0134 g/cm³) and high porosity (99.39%).
