Özet

This study investigated the levels of social functionality, treatment motivation, and treatment adherence among individuals diagnosed with alcohol and substance use disorder, and subsequently examined the relationships between these variables. Employing a descriptive design, the study involved a sample of 390 individuals who had applied to the outpatient clinic. Data were collected using the Sociodemographic Form, the Short Functionality Assessment Scale, the Treatment Motivation Questionnaire, and the Medical Treatment Adherence Rate Scale. The findings showed that participants' functionality levels were above moderate. Functionality levels were primarily influenced by employment duration, income level, educational background, and treatment status. Additionally, treatment motivation increased as functionality decreased. We also observed that as treatment adherence improved, confidence in treatment motivation tended to decline. We therefore recommend the development of strategies to enhance the functionality of individuals diagnosed with addiction. This approach should involve supporting job retention, improving educational attainment, and taking into account factors such as the type of substance used and inpatient treatment status. Furthermore, treatment programs should be structured with careful consideration of the interplay between motivation, adherence, and functionality.
